There are many places in Volgograd associated with a military glory, but a very few know about the existence of "Lyudnikov Island". It is a small stretch of coastline,which in the autumn of 1942 was defended by soldiers of the red 138 infantry division of Colonel Ivan Ilyich Lyudnikov.

Here you will see the monument to soldiers – signallerswith the call sign "Roller". Forty days and nights courageous soldiers kept communications secure and fought off the persistent attacks of the enemy.
You will also come to another monument on the "Lyudnikov Island" to the house of the "Barricades" factory director,which housed the command post of the 138-th infantry division. The building was left unrestored, same as the ruins of the mill and the central laboratory of the “Red October” factory. Their appearance evidences the degree of the fierce fighting in the border.
After the visit to the "Lyudnikov Island" you wil continue moving along the streets and avenues of Volgograd, passing the giant factories, residential areas, parks and squares until the view of the Volga Hydroelectric Power Station will unfold in front of you.
The dam will take you to the city of Volzhsky. After the large round on the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain, you will return to Volgograd through the "dancing bridge".
